Since Easter there have been budgies seen in the Upper Hunter, particularly in the area south of Denman. These are remarkable sightings to have budgies in the Hunter around 150km from the coast. Following a number of good seasons they have dispersed as the inland has started to dry out.
Even more remarkable is a report today of a flock of up to 70 budgies near Kurri Kurri, probably within 50 km of the coast.
Other inland species being reported in the Hunter include freckled ducks, spotted bowerbirds and large flocks of black kites (which are being seen at nearly every tip between the central coast and Brisbane).
Looks like the good rains might be coming just in time.
Has anyone been seeing unusual species in their area?
Cheers Ian

All during last year, we had (at one time I believe seven individuals) Painted Snipe all through Canberra. Pretty cool to see

We have seen a gradual decline in bird numbers out here since over the last 9 months. Many areas around Alice Springs have had some rainfall recently (40-60mm) . Enjoy the Budgies while you can, i think if we get some follow up rain in the next month the birds will head inland again.
