...and this recent thread on birding-aus list.

The links at the bottom relate to earlier sightings.
I find it odd that twitchers, who usually fancy themselves as conservationists and friends of nature, do not understand why secrecy is required.
They are the reason why secrecy is required.

Thats funny - i was speaking with Chris today about our sighting and i had tried to contact him at the time. There has also be an informal Night Parrot chat and recorded interviews recently which i declined to be involved in, they could be part of a doco coming your way soon. Few rumours around town at the moment regarding these parrots, and i didnt even start all of them.

Chris was very impressed with Jayburds count whilst here .

Looks like there's a veritable plague of night parrots out in the centre of Australia. The ABC has a story that's great news for our rarest parrot. Lave a listen to Fran Kelly's interview on Radio National.

Thanks for dragging this one up Gregh. Hardly plague proportions but it appears to be solid evidence at last. I get the feeling a few more will turn up with some renewed vigor on the searching front.

Wow what a break through I can't believe that I missed this story!! I've followed the updates for the search for the Night Parrot over the years and thought maybe one day someone might get a lucky break and see the bird alive (not dead like previously). Hopefully the evidence will be published to the public soon so we can see for ourselves and not getting me hopes up. It just goes to show that with enough time, money and patience great things can be achieved if we want to.

Well here's the video of the thing alive - Personally I prefer finches but I detest extinction!

Thanks Greg for the link,

I saw the article in the Weekend Australian, but when I saw who the person involved was I must admit I had my doubts.
Hopefully the evidence is as solid as it is claimed to be.

I'm hopeful that there is the hard evidence now. At last Friday's QFS meeting one member said he had been to the video presentation mentioned in the link and he was convinced that the night parrot has been filmed and that DNA evidence would come back positive.

I've had a look at the couple links available on the Night Parrot discovery by John Young and think from face value that the evidence so far (one picture) looks convincing. But we have been wrong before!! I think once the mentioned videos, pictures and DNA evidence comes out to the boarder public this discovery may then be confirmed. Lets hoping fingers crossed!!!
