Had my first goulds fledge today.

Got some mixed responses re the type of yellow.

I am aware this is extensively covered in other posts but none the less I ask again due to the mixed responses.

Not fussed either way as it looks like a healthy bird and I am wrapped to have it.

It looks like an Australian Dilute Backed chick to me,i thought that in the first pics because of the fawny brown colour that young ADB's are in the nest. Craig

If it has a SF male parent, it is a euro YB hen.

To get better Picture so to speak, what do you know about the genetic make up of the parent Birds,
it would be of great help in identifying the youngster in question more accurately,
Initially i also thought it a aussie dilute back.

If you go back to his original topic My New Gouldian Babies, the pic of the cock bird with the smokey grey head who is the father of those chicks, looks more like an Australian Dilute backed bird and if so the hen would have to be split ADB to breed that coloured bird.but who knows what gouldians are split for these days,it's almost a lucky dip what you get :wtf: Craig

In the original thread he said, the father is a normal Gouldian in all respects except for a "smokey" head. This description is far closer to a SF euro YB rather than a recessive dilute. I'd therefore be willing to confidently bet this bird is a hen SF euro YB.

I am with Tiaris, my bias is towards a SF HEN and not an AD.
The Genetic Make up of the male Parent removes the mystery.
