Hi Ben, I suppose I have had a fairly dissapointing gouldian season in the end. Those three fledged making 8 on the perch.

Bummer - at least the last 3 chicks survived I guess. How many pairs did you have set up?

The last nest from my successful pair has got 4 chicks, all doing well so far and I expect them to fledge within the next week or so. I'll pull stumps then and let them colour up before working out which ones I'll hang on to.

How did your other birds go (excluding the zebs that you mentioned earlier)?

I haven't had any luck with my stars as yet. I think they may be getting disturbed when sitting and not spending enough time on the eggs.

I set up three pairs of gouldians. I got none out of one pair, 5 from another with a few more chicks just hatched and 3 from the other pair with 4 one week old chicks in the nest.

Fingers crossed I can get these last 2 nests to fledge and I think I'll be happy enough with the season.

Sounds like you have had a reasonable season.

Cheers Ian

Yeah I'm relatively happy with my season, especially considering it was my first with Goulds. I would have really liked to get some young from my second pair though so I have some unrelated birds to work with. At this stage I'll be clearing out some of this year's young and trying to get some new birds around Christmas time.

Hope you have some better luck throughout spring, depending on what birds you're setting up.

Ben
