I was going to make a comment about the head shape as it is one of the common traits of the red bellied black snake to flatten the area behind their head to make themselves seem larger and bluff when feeling threatened. Although they are venomous they are really scaredy cats and will normally take off when approached as compared to the brown or tiapan who will actively defend themselves and attack. Been there, done that. Not pretty.
Thanks for the replies. The photo was taken by a mate from work. I will have to double check the exact location and if he has more photos. Nor sure if that's the hear or just where it goes into the grass. I just cropped the photo to where I could ser the snake.
[quote="iaos"]I know how much you all love snakes. Any idea on the Id of this one. I don't think it has quite the right look for a red-bellied. The photo was taken west of Tamworth.
It's a Blue Bellied Black, Heaps west of the ranges, not often will you find Red bellies very far away from creeks, rivers

only one thing wrong with that snake, it's alive.
