Has anybody ever used stacks of newspapers, etc. to attract termites. I know it obviously isn't going to work if you live in suburbia or have concerns about them infesting your house. In my machinery shed they eat the cardboard boxes around the 5 litre oil bottles in no time at all.

Willy,i did know a guy who used to fill 20ltr steel drums with cardboard stuffed inside and watered down.He would find a termite nest and chip the top off flat and invert the drum on top with a brick on top of that to keep it there. In a week or two he would return to the nest with his old trusty saw and cut between the top of the nest and the drum and take home at least one third of the termites that were in the nest.Damp cardboard is a great way to get termites.
He alternated 6 or so nests so they had time to increase their numbers. Craig

Gday Willy, here is a link to a blog by findi. Frank is a member of this forum. He is based in North America so I'm not sure how the collecting of different species may differ.
Anyway, here is some food for thought http://blogs.thatpetplace.com/thatrepti ... -reptiles/
Cheers Ian
