Is this the same bloke who often buys up birds towards the end of sales?
I'm pretty sure I've sold him a few and he'll often pay more than the Sydney dealers.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I ran out of free time today. I dropped into Andrew Isles bookshop first and spent along time browsing and buying.

Cheers Ian

Hi Ian,

You made better use of your time at Andrew Isles than any bird dealer in Melbourne.....these are the place people send their unwanted (useless) birds.....plenty of good breeders....no really worthy dealers to speak of....it's obviously a different market to Sydney.

Cheers
Paul

Just a word of warning, I bought 4 Gouldians from him last season and 3 died within a week and the 4th a few months later. I did call him to let him know and he said it was probably my fault, not his.

Hi Mattstar,

I have heard many people make similar comments about John's birds.....he is also very expensive. There are at least 10 members on this site that live within 10-15 Km's of John's dealership...so why not try the breeders on this site first (in the future).

Cheers
Paul

I am not directing this about anyone in particular but I feel that you can't blame dealers for all losses.
Many losses are simply bad management by the purchaser, buy late in the afternoon and then releasing bird right on dark
the same day. There are many mistakes people can make and initially there could be nothing wrong with the bird that has died.
The other point and it really gets me annoyed is when people have a bird that is too old and won't breed so off to the dealers to
off load it. This is totally wrong and should not be acceptable period.
The dealer buys in good faith, sells it to a breeder or prospective breeder and the buyer may as well throw the money down the toilet.
It may die or loose condition so the dealer gets the blame and the CREEP who sold it pockets the money and gets away scot free.
This practice hurts our hobby in many ways and should not be done. Let your old worn out stock live in retirement, they have most likely earned it.

I know John is expensive however, it is the only place you can go and be guaranteed a good range to choose from. I have bought about 5-6 pairs from him and never had a problem. I take their advice though and hold in travel cage overnight and release in the morning.
