white young

hi Ive been breeding normal and white breasts for years now, this year I have one white and several pale young, my mate reckons they are yellow backs? any ideas? thanks john

Hi John,

If you don't have any European Yellow Backs then it is impossible for the young to be YB...with the white bird(s) you have Australian Yellows, meaning some of your breeding stock must be split for AY. If any of your adult birds have a white patch..eg on back of head, wing, etc this will visually prove which birds are split to AY...if none are marked they can still be split, but just not showing any markings.

The dull colored bird....depending on your description...could also be Australian Dilute.

Post some photos and we will be able to give you a more definate reply.

Do any of those "Normals" you have happen to have no black round the neck area? Because you could have already had single factor YB if so, and that would explain this bird.

Although this bird appears to be yellow backed. IMO, It is actually a Yellow headed/Dilute backed Hen, Carrying both the Green and Yellow gene.

IMO,it is not an Australian Dilute backed,it shouldn't be any different under the bill and around the back of the mask to a normal.I'm thinking the same as Finchbreeder. Craig
