Magpies are pretty much omnivorous
Every year our resident pair bring off at least one clutch, and feed newly fledged young on bread, meat scraps, and basically whatever they can find in the yard
Favoured food consists of insects obtained by following the ride-on mower; but dried dog pellets are also shoved into the begging youngsters to shut them up

That is a fantastic link Arthur. Extraordinary birds alrighty. Amazing to see that degree of inter species play.
I raised a raven in my youth and it built up a similar relationship with our then cat. He also had a thing about shoelaces, that was hilarious to watch. Be keen to hear about the outcome of your maggie too deb. Have heard it can be difficult to keep them when the wild birds are present. The territorial biffs can be brutal.
