Showing Gouldians

Just wondering if any of you could give me tips on what to look for when selecting birds for shows and what else is involved.
I have around 30 gouldians and they are all in great condition.

Where a group of people are providing the contestants and another is choosing what they consider the best of the presented contestants, the result will always be very subjective.

Even though a good gouldian, or any other bird will have certain features that are measurable and desirable, each judge will weight their judgment in favour of any particular feature they feel is essential.

All you can do is enter a few shows using what you consider your best birds and see what happens. Once you see which birds, either others birds or yours keeping getting the winners rosette you will get an idea of what the judges are looking for.

Whether their idea of a good bird matches your idea is another matter.

Your choice then will either be change to what the judges are looking for to get that rosette or stand your ground.

I do not know how bird shows are run in Australia but in Europe there are standards for every bird.

Here the standard for Gouldians in The Netherlands. They run on a par with other European countries otherwise it would be impossible to have a world show.
Judges go through a very rigorous course, starting with a pre course to see if one has the stamina, enthousiasm etc to complete.
The actual course is for one Saturday a month for a two year period.
