Re the cat walking around your garden, if you have an idea of the time the cat does its patrol, I would suggest hiding somewhere with a hose and when you see the cat give it a full pressure spray, not many cats like to be wet, a couple of trips to your place that end with a bedraggled cat may just put it off from returning.
