I agree !00% increase sounds alot but we are talking about $2.00.
If a $4.00 entry puts you off I'm not sure your likely to be putting your hand in your pocket to buy anything when you get inside.
Lets face it you would save that much buying a bird direct from the breeder at the sale rather than the local petshop/dealer. Bird Clubs like every other organisation can't keep charging 80's prices and paying current day charges.
Just the way of the world. Even stamps went up this month. Hope to see you Sunday Firetail555

I agree. We paid $30 to get the 6 of us into the ballarat farm expo just for a look last weekend. $8 for a family is an absolute bargain. Lets face it running something like this isn't free so the money has to come from somewhere. You can either charge the stall holders or the customers or a combination of the two. These costs have to be balanced so both the stall holders and the customers feel its worthwhile going.Alf63 wrote:I agree !00% increase sounds alot but we are talking about $2.00.

Hi Myzo,Goulburn Valley is $5 to enter which is in Victoria.Myzomela wrote:See you all there.
As an aside I did see that the entrance fee is $4- for this sale, which is the most expensive of all the Vic sales this year.
It won't stop me going but I wonder if it affects how many families will bother to come.
Given the current state of the bird game as judged from other sales across the country to date, it would be a shame if people were put off.
Anyway, i'll be there & am looking forward to enjoying the day.
Cheers
Myzo

Hi Jack
Yes I have since found this out.
I agree that it's probably not such a big deal. I guess I am just being mindful of anything that may put people off going to the sales which is the last thing we want.
Hopefully everyone is happy at the end of the day- buyers, sellers, the public and the clubs get some much needed funds.
See you all there Sunday.

Times must be tough if people are complaining about a $2 increase. When was the last increase 1979.. Ha ha
Come on folks.... The venue cost go up over time... Imagine if u were a committee member and saw complaints like this... Now u can see why few people get involved in running such events.... Complaints like this must make them wonder why they bother.
Time to smell the roses and support our clubs
Cheers

Hi Paul
I only brought this up because the other large sales have kept their prices the same as last year.
I'm not worried about most breeders who wouldn't be put off by this.
Rather I was thinking of the Geelong public, in trying financial times of late, who are the ones we are trying to encourage to come to these events and introduce them to aviculture. I just questioned whether higher charges at the gate is the best way to go?
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Hopefully I'm worrying about nothing and they turn up in their droves.
I know that the sales tables are booked out so at least there should be plenty on offer for everyone.

In my opinion is it's not a good move, it's not the extra $2 at all but the actual act of putting up the price.
Do they really need the extra money, the successful sale relies on many sellers and hopefully many more buyers.
Now that entry costs have gone up what is next, do the flood gates open, maybe table cost double or in NSW the cost of each bird
rises to $3.
I do not suggest that a clubs hard working committee do not deserve to get money into the club but we need to also ask why were club
bird sales originally planned. They were planned for a way of revenue yes but the majority were simply formed as a service to their members.
A venue for the members to sell or trade their excess stock and break the dealer strangle hold(maybe).
A clubs sale should do more than make money, it brings the clubs name onto a broader field which inturn has the possibility of new members signing up
After saying I do not agree about the increase, what I will say is that the Victorian system of booking a table is far more attractive to me than $1 per bird.
as per NSW. Recently I placed an add in the local paper and sold 140 birds on the day I allocated, cost $43 for the add. If I had taken that many birds to a NSW sale the cost would have been $140 plus $2 entry. On top would be food and travelling expenses. But the social side must be considered as well though.
