IMO I feel the point is being missed. Maybe the cost of hiring the venue has gone up.... But again I still can't see how an extra $2 is going to scare off anyone

It's fine to state the purpose of a sale is to promote the club and our hobby... I agree... But each club should be allowed to at least break even.

Again I find a discussion on this forum being about a few dollars... I would have thought we should have moved on from money issues by now
Cheers

Thanks for that Paul and you are right,i said that in an earlier post but everyone has to have their own opinion even though they don't live in Geelong, but that's ok it's a forum.
But you have to realise that the Sunday market is on at the same time as well at the other end of the show grounds and the patrons of that flood the hall, they are not there to buy birds but to have a look at them and mostly block potential buyers. Most turn up with toddlers and prams and it becomes a night mare.
Maybe we need to allow members only for $2 and visitors $4 to make it abit more of a deterrent but that would be an absolute nightmare and the venue needs to be paid for and a small profit needs to be made to cover the clubs costs.
The costs for selling your birds at $20 for half a 3.6mtr table for members and $30 for non members is very reasonable imo,you can get a lot of birds on a 1.8 table, especially if you stack up your selling cages or have multi division selling cages.
E Orix,i can't believe you say it's a deliberate act of putting up the prices, mate times are changing and everyone has to keep up with the times of modern life and i don't believe it will open the gates to decieve every thing in the future,FGS it's only $2.
I have to say sorry to Jack for hijacking his topic of just advertising the Geelong Sale for three pages of imo, rubbish. Craig :silent:

Why do these topics end up in a heated discussion. read what I *** wrote,***I simply stated that I was concerned that in the future what will
be increased. At no stage did I have a go at Geelong, I was simply giving my opinion. How is $2 going to worry me when I would spend around
$120 on fuel alone to get to the sale.
By the way it would need an extremely high hall rental plus a very very low attendance for a sale to make a loss. Food sales alone would
put a big dent in the overall costs. That I do know.

David,i'm sorry if you feel it has become a heated discussion,as far as i am concerned it hasn't.You and others stated your opinions and i have just given my opinion but maybe i shouldn't have used your post as a crutch as the topic reads Geelong Sale and you were covering all sales,oh well another clash i suppose. Cheers Craig

At the end of the day its Geelongs sale and if they need to charge $4 its their call. They are booked out for sellers so it should be a good day.
If i dont sell out of birds who cares. We are there to share a common interest and it will be a great day out what ever happens.Just like my local small sale I attended recently I took some birds knowing they were out of the buyers price range for the area. But the reason I took them was not to sell them but so people there could see them in the real flesh, they maynot get to see them anywhere else. You never know if somone wanted to buy them they were still for sale.I attend that sale to support the local club and nothing else if i didnt sell a bird I would still attend the next year.

Looking forward to a good sale

There are two reasons for our price rise,to give you an idea if we got 500 people through the door at $2 it would
not cover the hall hire cost, secondly you may notice our tables they 3.6 mt long X 700w X 20ml thick and made of
chipboard, they also come with 3 trestles, our club like many is not getting any younger and moving these tables
around is heavy work,we had the cost of purchasing a shipping container last year to house them. Our aim is to replace
these with blow mould tables which are light weight and easily handled. We purchased 40 late last year and still have
145 more to get at a cost of around $5500.Please try and understand why we have made this change to our entry fee.
I do hope this will be the end of this thread.

HI Jack

Thanks for clarifying the extra cost items the club is trying to cover....now that should put the $2 into perspective.

See you all at Geelong for a great day!!!

Cheers

And thanks Jack for helping sorting out my issue that unnecessarily occurred. I now have a table again

So all i will have AFF merch to table, if anyone wants to stock up and contribute to the running costs of the forum.

Anyone who does want to donate on the day with a few $$$$ but not with merch I will have a receipt book for all needing receipts. As always if you cant afford a financial donation any other positive help for this site be it a article or general sharing of knowledge is always appreciated.
