I have been trying to breed tri-coloured parrot finches for 3 years now. I have had infertile eggs, clutches of 4 eggs with only 1 hatching and the chick dying after about a week. I even managed to get two chicks with feathers but they died in the nest.
Well today I had four tri-coloured chicks leave the nest. The only thing different this time, was I fed the parents live food, in this case meal worms. All the books say that live food is not necessary, but this has certainly helped for me.
At last - baby tricoloured parrot finches

Congratulations. Always nice to get babies, but all the more sweet when that specie has been difficult for you in the past. Every time you look at them you will feel a sense of achievement.

well done to you and the tri's.
they come out underdone don't they!
are they the same parents that have been trying for the last 3 years?
thanks for the pic.

The trouble with finch books is that they are read by finchkeepers not finches.
So glad to hear that experimentation and the finches came up trumps for you.
