Basic Breeding Info:
Average Clutch Size: 4 - 7 eggs
Incubation Period: 11 - 12 days
Leave nest: 21 days
First Moult: Full colour is reached after approx 3 months

Sex:
The cock has a bib under the beak the hen does not.
Both cock and hen have the plum coloured crown but the hen has a thin white line between the eyes and the crown.

Hi All plumheads are like all finches if u get the wright pair they breed mine have had 3 young this summer but they don't like wet and cold weather so if you can get them to breed in the summer they are OK in WA

Devils Bend on the Macquarie River here in Dubbo has a good population of wild Plumheads . Cant appreciate what a handsome bird they are until you see them up close or in a photo , at a distance they look quite ordinary .

Very nice little birds , thanks for sharing the pics/info of them .

one of my favourites,beautiful colours when sun hits them. very placid. good bird to train others with food will try everything. veryvery underrated bird. breeds easily. easy to sex. if you have never had this breed in your aviary, i highly recommend you get a pair. :D
