Gouldian indicators?

Just got 7 new OH PB GB Gouldians, thanks Chris.
Nice looking birds, but Mother and I both think they are 4 and 3 not 5 and 2 re sexing. :D
Have put different colour plastic rings on each bird so I can keep track of who is who.
My OH PB YB boy seems to be a little interested in the most obviously female, coloured up one of them all. :D :D

I have had a look at this program, but it seems a little conflicting to what I am seeing in the cages.

Based on the parents, Cock spilt RH/BH(i think!), purple front, green back and Hen RH, purple front, green back, it says that I should get 50/50 of RH and BH Hens. From what I can see I have 100% BH Hens. Not sure if I am missing something?? Any thoughts.

Unfortunately :( what you should get and what you do get will vary from nest to nest and season to season.
Were you able to breed and record exactly 100 young from a pair the results should be accurate. :lol:

Try these links to genetic forecasters. You just click the appropriate head chest and body colours and another screen pops up with the youngsters possible colouring. If you highlight each line a pic appears of the youngster.

I have used the second website to try and work out my pair and there off-spring, but it doesn't seem to work?

I had RH/BH PF GB Male with a RH PF GB Hen. The result was 3 RH PF GB Males and 5 BH PF GB hens. The forecaster was giving a 25% BH and 25% RH on the hens. It seems a bit odd that I got 100% BH Hens :?:

Mind you I am only guessing that the Father is split RH/BH.

Not sure any thoughts?

Check out this link, found an email address so you can download the newest version of Carlos Matos Gouldian Forecaster. He replied very quickly.

I put the pairing you posted into this forecaster and it came up with the 25% as you said.......could be that its just a average % that can be different if you have all hens or all cocks. Nixity may be able to give more info on this, she is a wiz at genetics.

Genetic forcasters work on what SHOULD happen if you breed 100 young from the same pair.
It's like if you flip a coin 100 times it should come up heads 50 times and tails 50 times, but because everything in breeding and gambling is random it is not always that simple.
eg. you breed your pair and get all black headed girls for three nestings, then the next year you breed them and get all red headed hens for three nestings. See the forcaster is right you got 50% of each :lol:
It is the result over the breeding life of the pair of birds that is being predicted, not over a single nesting.
I know it's frustrating, and I have just re-sorted all mine and am looking forward to this seasons frustration.

The father has to be RH/BH to produce BH hens.
Unless there's a chance your hen could have bred to another male (if you are colony breeding or had her in a mix-sex flight before you paired her up).
But as others have said, statistics usually fair better when you are dealing with large numbers.
