I have tried apple cider vinegar on numerous occasions on my birds (mainly because I have used it every morning for myself ?) The purpose of using it for birds is to acidify the water to prevent yeast infections. But after a lot of testing I cannot find any proof that it works.I now use citric acid 1 gram to 5ltrs water & find this quite effective.
Ivamectin is only effective for finches to control round worm etc which is very rare in finches & it is very easy to overdose on this product it also is used to control air sac mite.A lot safer product is moxydectrin which has a lot higher tolerances & more effective. But as stated before these are treatments not prevenatives.

I give my birds acv 2 to 3 times aweek the acv i have also has garlic and b-1 in it I buy it by the 44 g drum because I feed it to my horses at 60 to 80mls a day, I think it helps my birds but Iám sure it helps my horses as a general health tonic.Ivomecton again is used on the horses I seem to use it 2 to 3 times a year and actualy the acv covers the horrible taste in the water of ivomecton

I'm not familiar with cydectin so I don't know what the active ingredient is without researching, but aside from that, my guess would be that the concentration and dosage for livestock/cattle is profoundly different than what would be administered on a 16g bird.gomer wrote:I know when treated externally on cattle( pour on )cydectin,I think lasts up to 40 days treating any parasite that comes in contact with the animal. So i would imagine it would be simular on a bird.
The only ASM med I know of to remain active in the birds' system for a period of time is Moxidectin (SCATT) which is touted to be active for up to three weeks.
The ivermectin readily available in the US specifically for Gouldians (either S76 or Iverlux) are both only active in the birds for 8 hours or less - which is why these meds require repeated treatment over a period of weeks (if in water; 2 consecutive days for three consecutive weeks, to be exact) or days (if on skin; 5 days consecutively to be exact) to be effective.
Whereas the treatment with Scatt is a single drop, with the option to repeat again in 3 weeks to be sure to get the full life cycle.

cydectin is moxidectin.the active ingrediant moxidectin may differ per gr per ml as you stated. with Aust pigeon co having a guarenteed 2g per ml and cydectin 5g per ml. I give mine direct .005 ml of either ivermectin or moxidectin As this is the easiest measurement to administer direct. And there is a high margin for era,I have been told its a 100% era margin with moxidectin. but I would not like to test this. heres a couple of links with info for all.The third one is probley not relevant as much as it is a injection.the fourth one is good info about moxidectin aswell.
