These comments should all be in the general part of the Forum.

I would like to comment. My personal view is when I see people wishing to aquire expensive or hard to get species my first thought
is "I hope they are experienced enough to have them". I feel any other experienced breeder also has that right to ask. To me it's not bashing anyone
but just having the concern that we are not going to lose another rare specimen. Generally if a person is capable then they would realise why the question is
being asked. If they don't I rest my case. We have had too many rare birds lost to cheque book Aviculture.
Please don't get upset,it's the birds welfare which is important.
Josh welcome and these comments are simply generalisation ones.

Gary, unfortunately you have misconstrued my intention. My comment although somewhat "tongue in cheek" was designed as a mark of respect to a new member who is willing to give them a try. Firstly, I'm just one person, and the thought of blue knockers doesn't appeal to me either  . I don't personally know of anyone who has found blues to be as hardy as normals, including some with vast experience. They do have special housing requirements - It's no secret that most who toss them in an exposed backyard aviary have had great difficulty keeping them on the perch. And as Craig mentioned, it does seem some of our Vic. friends have got stronger lines going.

Hi Josh,

I think what Sam is trying to say is that the blues that come out of NSW are weak  .....source your stock from the Gouldian Capital of Australia....Melbourne.  There are many breeders down here who produce 50+ blues and/or splits every year...year after year. So if housed right and given the correct diet and most importantly outcrossed to normal stock regularly our friends from NSW could also have strong blues.

I'll give you just 1 little example of how well blues can breed. I have an first year Aussie Yellow Blue hen mated with a double split cock who is from a different bloodline. 3 nests with round 1 producing 6 eggs....6 on the perch....2nd nest...5 eggs...5 on the perch....3rd round.....9 eggs....7 young still in the nest....I guess if she was a strong normal the 3rd round would have produced 9 young from 9 eggs.....oh well she is only a weak aussie yellow blue so what can you expect.

I hope people don't take my little post personally

Cheers
Paul

Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me into the forum. I can see there are a lot of knowledgeable & experienced breeders on here which is great. I am keen to breed the blues. I've been doing a lot of research & time and experience will only develop more over time lol. I'm still trying to work out how to send private messages also but I should figure it out eventually haha. Please send me a private message if you have or will have some blues available in the near future. I'm also interested in expanding & getting some new bloodlines of the standards & euros. Thanks again
