You have been on the forum for two weeks and have had topics including diamonds getting plucked and losing newly acquired birds. This could also be misconstrued as inexperience... But if people thought they would be judged everytime they raised a topic the forum wouldn't exist.

Back on topic (kinda). I have found both the forum and my local club invaluable for making contacts and sourcing stock. Many bag clubs but my local one is a cracker, I have found members to be very approachable and helpful.

Yes "iaos" I am inexperienced in the keeping of Diamonds and Crimsons and I said as much,
But I was also taken for a ride by 2 very experieced bird breeders who were after the almighty dollar and nothing else.
They saw me coming a mile away. As I said about the Crimsons the breeder brought the birds to my place on his way to the Ballarat Sale and saw the holding aviary that I put them in.

OK,this is getting a little off topic so lets get back to it.

One question i would like to ask is,i wonder how many people rang that guy (with the Aberdeens) to tell him that they only wanted ONE pr.To do this would send alarm bells to the seller as he would very worried about the possibility of that person losing one and not being able to source another.
Would this person leave the single bird in an aviary by its self and wait till another bird is available,which could be years or would they go and buy an opposite sex cut thoat to try to get them going again as hybrids,one has to wonder.
The same scenario could be said for my birds and it has definately happened in the past,you lose a cock or hen and you go for the next best thing,a BB cock or hen infact i believe that is why they disappeared from our aviaries in the first place as the BB is the dominant bird and more widely available at the time.

I think people need to wait until the birds are well established and the price begins to fall before attempting to get them now and leave them to the people with the know how and if you think you have the know how,buy at least 3prs to set your self up.

I suppose the key issue here seems to be that Suzanne feels "fobbed off" but that's what can happen when you deal with heaps of different people. I won't judge anyone but rudeness is not helpful if that's what you experienced. Hpoefully it was a misunderstanding but there's still lots of friendly folk out there!

I feel joining a club is just the thing to do, not avoid doing. Clubs introduce you to people and get you known. Forums are great for sharing info but you really don't get the "real deal" face-to-face interraction that you do on aviary visits or at meetings.

Sharing breeding information is easy but I can understand people not wishing their rare birds going to people who are either inexperienced, unknowledgeable or just still setting up. I'm in the same boat in still setting up and will just be patient. There are so many lovely birds to breed and wonderful people to meet. Enjoy the rollercoaster!!
