 Hi welcome to the forum
Everything you could possibly want to know about keeping and breeding finches you will find within the forum, and if its not there just ask we have some of the most successful finch breeders in Australia here.
There are species profiles for many finches and this will help with choices of birds you may want. You will a have a good source of information from your friend too, at least what works for them.
Once your 5 posts are done you will be able to see all the forum, it will take a while to read it all, but its well worth the read before you start to build your aviary.
Its easier to build once and do it right, than build then try to fix.

That's exactly right
I would like to get things correct from the start - that's some I learnt from the Fish hobby and breeding...
In the end, I will want something that is ideally built around easy maintenance as I have done with my many fish tanks

Thanks for the warm welcome though from everyone!

Hi Shon
Welcome to the Forum. There is a lot of good information here and so many people willing to help. The advice here made my start that much easier and less expensive ;-)

You live in a nice protected area and will get lots of satisfaction. My brother had success with finches at Samsonvale. I'm curious, is your balcony facing the west?

If you have any questions regarding large predators, a close friend of mine, Paul Mander runs the Raptor Rehabilitation Centre at Nerang and has taught me so much about protecting my birds. I too live in the fringes on acreage and unfortunately still have problems with Butcher Birds and Currawongs. They can be very persistent and frustrating from July - October.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing many more of your photos.

cheers . .
Danny
