Hi there, new to finches and this forum - thanks for the earlier welcome.

I have a question about books to get me started:

Is there a good beginners finch keeping ? I know that the Kensington seems to be the pick but I can't find a copy of it for less that $100. I did find this other book on ebay:

Has anyone read this book? Any other books you might recommend for a rank beginner?

thank you

I have got that book in my collection and it is very informative for the beginner, it covers all Australian finchs.I suggest that you make contact with,
the Australian Avicultural Society who have decided to get out of selling books and just maybe you could find some books at the right price.
Their website is, http://www.birds.org.au, good luck

I have both vol 1 & 2. Both very good books.

I also have The Finch a Breeders Companion by Russell Kingston. Yes its over $100 but an excellent book and worth every cent.

Remember the more knowledge you have the more success you have and the less mistakes you make. Ultimately a small price to pay.

Also when its my birthday or Christmas I ask for books as present. At least you will be receiving something that you want. I am receiving the Encyclopedia of Aviculture this Christmas as reviewed in a recent FSA magazine.

Good point you make. I bought this book "Care & Breeding of Australian Finches.. Elizabeth Blewett" from ebay for $12 bucks. Just found the Kingston book in my university library so that is a bonus too.

time to get reading!!!

Cheers

I managed to get my University library to get the Kensington book about caring for finches and other seed eaters - its not the Kensington book but might be ok until I get one for XMAS!

cheers again
