I was at the Hunter club recently when this was discussed/finalised. If my memory is correct then I believe all sellers must be a member of a Canary and Cage Bird (C&CB) insured club. This is to do with the C&CB insurance policy. Sellers are encouraged to bring along a membership card to confirm/simplify things but you can also write down the name of your club and sign to confirm. Of course you can join the Hunter Finch club on the day but this is not required. There is no restriction on buyers whatsoever.

Hopefully a Hunter Finch Club committee member will jump in and confirm.

Without doubt it will be a terrific sale. Sadly I will only get back from NZ on Saturday evening so will not be at the sale on Sunday.

I'll be heading along, not really buying or selling. Go for a sticky beak and a catch up with mates.

Cheers Ian

See on another forum that there is/was a good crowd in attendance.

but rather than concentrating on this issue, as quoted in an earlier post: We were told at my local bird club meeting last month that All sellers have to be members of a bird club with written/ID type card proof of membership. This will be the 1st time it will be enforced prior to admission to the sale.

why does the organisation not concentrate on the banning of all wire cages at the sale rather than the negative impact of having the be a member of a bird club.
I would have thought that is a far more important issue?

cheers, Case, Tauranga, New Zealand.

I doubt if the club wanted to enforce the membership issue but they most likely had no choice with regard public liability.
These days the risk of being sued is more common and a situation could destroy the club, members etc.
Most clubs have the public risk so the sellers should have been covered.
Personally I can't see it as a big hardship.
