Hello,
I am trying to determine the sex of my Bengalese finch. I haven't noticed if they 'sing' and will try and listen out today while I'm out there. (They don't live with me at the moment)
It is a very active nest builder? So does anyone know who usually does this because I am receiving conflicting information
Thanks guys
PAige

My bengos are colony. The cocks will enthusiastically do a dance and sing when feeling frisky. I'm pretty sure they both build the nest together, but anyone who knows better is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.

It is awhile since I kept Bengalese but we sexed them quite easily.
We would seperate them into a single bird per show cage and put the all out of site of each other. After a couple of hours we would bring all cages together and in site and virtually every cockbird would sing its head off and at least you knew the cockbird. If it didn't sing odds are its a hen.
Remember two males together will build and will successfully foster chicks(one will seem to be acting like a female). If a nest holds 6+ eggs then you most likely have two hens.
In a nutshell,cockbirds sing,hen birds don't.
Becareful putting them in a mixed collection as they take great delight in taking over another birds nest.

ok... definitely sounds hard
I only have one (a left over one that someone gave me) housed with two pairs of gouldians.
Would it still sing if it only had gouldian hens to sing to?
It jumped in a gouldians nest yesterday and a fight occured thus the reason im trying to sell it now!
Haha. Don't know what the going rate is though? Il have to google it
