I know the common way to do this is cock goldfinch and canary hen, but since i cant find a cock goldfinch atm, i have two spare goldfinch hens so i was wondering is there any tricks to do this way round.
Also could i run them in the canary aviary where i have 3 hens and a cock or would they not breed that way ?

I just left mine an avairy together with no distractions. But with 3 canary hens already to keep him busy your canary cock is not likely to put the goldfinch hens down. He's only one little male bird.

Would it be ok to keep 3 or 4 canaries hens with 2 goldfinch cock in one aviary? I know this breeding season is already gone, I'm just planing for the next one.

The breeding season for Mules in Melbourne has just started, because the Goldfinch takes longer than the canaries to come into condition ,
I would not but 2 cockbirds in the 1 aviary because they would just upset each other, and when 1 tries to mate the other would be pushing him off. 1 Goldfinch can take care of 3 or 4 Hens
In Queensland with your Hot weather you might still be lucky to get another round unless you keep getting 40% scorchers. Good Luck.

Thanks Spitfire for your hint. It makes sense. I have 3 males (2 goldfinch and 1 canary) in the same aviary now and they do fight a bit sometimes. Nothing serious though, but certainly enough to ruin my breeding plans.

Hey finchbreeder, how is your attempt of getting mules going? Any luck so far?

I'm not breeding mules. It was just something that happened with spare birds some time back. I love the song, but not enough to breed mules instead of pure birds.

My breeding male goldfinch took a stringer liking ti a goldfinch hen I had in the adjoining aviary. They now have built a nest and have eggs.

Im more stiked with this than breeding mules as breeding goldfinches out of wild caught birds can be a difficult task.

Ill try and pair up my spare rooster to the canary oncer her eggs hatch.
