I found plenty today. Unfortunately most is on private property.
I certainly found enough roadside stuff for my needs, but I saw a couple of hundred bags worth of private property, with threatening signs about trespassing...
luckily the thought didn't even cross my mind.

Most property owners welcome the removal of it,to them it is a fire hazard and if they run sheep it is known as an irritating crutch grass,it wouldn't hurt to talk to them about itiaos wrote:I found plenty today. Unfortunately most is on private property.

hi all ,went to my usual spot over the weekend and saw what i thought was a good crop of november grass,on closer investigation it was found to be very sparse ,picked about 25 bags but it took a lot of work compared to other years, checked out some more spots that i go to and they where worse, must have been very dry in those areas, garyh

I know this may be a silly thing to ask/ say, I have bag of nesting swamp grass that I bought recently from a pet store (stupidly priced for such a little amount) but can't we just use meadow grass...the stuff that you can use for bedding for rabbits and Guinness pigs...it's still grass and is fine stranded and long stranded,...is this not an option too ? Or is just swamp what everyone uses for nests ?what else is advised ? I only have one pair of red faced parrot finches ( thought they were both cock birds initially....I have now seen as they got older I have a pair

No just plain grass hay is fine for most finches and they get the benefit of some grass seeds amongst it as well.Swamp grass is preferred by most african waxbills but they will still use fine grass hay if swamp grass isn't provided. Just read your post again, grass hay is fine for parrot finches but also give them plenty of feathers, they prefer Emu feathers but chook feathers are also eagerly used for nesting.
