What to feed zebs?

For all your questions about diet and food for your finches
TailFeathers

Hello,

I have a pair of zebra finches. I could not find much info or speak to breeders, there's barely any of them around me.

I need to know what to feed them and what they cannot have.

I need to know how often they require fruits, veggies and leafy greens.

Please help if you can

Thank you

Constantly available small mixed dry seed (millets, etc.)
Regular (ideally daily) leafy greens &/or sprouted seed.
Egg & biscuit or similar softfood daily whilst breeding (rearing young).

As Tiaris has mentioned but I don't use egg and biscuit. I have Vitamins in soaked seed, I use Endive for greens and have just started feeding maggots.

Hello,

I'll be hardpressed to find some endive here I'm the states. I'll try other leafy greens and hopefully it helps. As for protein, I'm shying away from egg myself. I don't like the idea of feeding avian to other avian. It kinda reminds me of how mad cow disease occurred bc farmers were feeding cow back to cow. Yuck!

How are you growing your maggots. Do you feed them live, frozen, or dry?

Thanks

Natural greens I give daily, just a couple of stalks/pair.

Some alternatives are chickweed, spinach, boy choy, pak choy, sweet basil, seeding grasses etc. Just try a few things and see what they like. Mine like all of those I've mentioned, but are completely uninterested in cucumber.
