Well, my herb garden has become a bit sad, thanks to the combined efforts of aphids, caterpillars and possums! I was getting rid of some of hte aphid infested leaves, and figured I'd toss some in with the birds to see if they liked any of it. The verdict:

Sweet basil: couldn't get enough!! They were onto it as quickly as I could get it in there
Parsley: Some showed some interest, but mostly played with it.
Sage: No. Do not want.
Mint: Not too interested
Coriander: Yum, yum!

Once my thyme has recovered, I'll see if they have any interest in that :)

Aphids are enjoyed by a lot of finches. Interesting about the Basil.
Thanks

One of my coriander seedlings became completely infested with aphids, so I put the whole pot in the aviary- the birds really enjoyed 'foraging' :)

Some strange people go round carefully collecting aphid infested parts of plants, bagging them and carrying them home with them. :silent: Hmm, that would be me.

I have thistles in my garden and aphids love them. Also, roses attract aphids and you can shake them off into a bag or onto a plate. I do not use any sprays on my roses and the aphids come.
