I have been chatting to several people and trying to read up as much as I can on when exactly is the optimum breeding season/period for my various birds. I have so far had several differinf suggestions for the Orange Breasted from they will only breed in winter to they will breed all year round except between December and February.

So I would like to throw out a question which no doubt will cause more controversy than I can imagine with a possibilty of multiple answers.

I currently have pairs of Orange Breasted, Red face parrots, Red Firetails, and Red Cheeked Cordons and I would appreciate views on when more experience breeders belive they are in optimum breeding season in a Canberra climate?

Guess I now wait for all the multiple answers and then go from there :?

Well going on this year the poor birds dont know if its summer or winter. I dont think you can say when they are likely to breed with the temps fluctuating all the time.
Maybe the long term breeders can tell but going on old mates here its pot luck this year and pity any of them that have a nest full on the hot days.
So far this year I have 1 firetail fledgling out of my finches however my parrots are on their second clutch so who knows?
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Well the young orange breasted pair in the community aviary have just laid their 3rd clutch. Due to hatch about 3rd Feb. Each time there was chicks but the hot weather arrived and I lost them all. :x
Absolutely no peeking and fingers firmly crossed for me for this clutch.

generally the season to go is spring, in my birds. summer is too hot and winter too cold, but spring and autumn are OK. as mentioned, it's basically impossible to predict, and I have a pair of red cheeked cordons nesting ATM!! :D
