Red Eyed Gouldian - Aus Yellow or Lutino?

Just some update picks.

She is looking a little scruffy plus she hasn't been to well the last 2 day but now I have separated her from the hormonal boys she has picked up plus the added stress of her moult wouldn't be helping either.

Although the pictures don't show it she definitely has retained some red in her eyes and also holds a strong red pigment in her beak (red head gene I'm guessing, father was a red head) and there is a lot of red seen in her feet/legs.

I would say you have got yourself a black headed lutino,though it is very hard feathered and needs to be out crossed to some good quality birds. Good luck Rich. Cheers Craig

Father is definitely split black head.
In the past I've had many BHPBYB hens.

No....the only time there has been a white breast gene present it was visually with white nodules indicating Aus Yellow or Lutino, both of these mutations share the same nodules at hatching.

Hence the topic title "Aus Yellow or Lutino"..

As much as I would like to see a Lutino Gouldian reappear again in some ones aviary but,I have to confess that
I have reservations in regards to this particular bird being a member of the INO family.
at present the colour of the eyes do not correspond with the eyes of a true Lutino
the legs are several shades too dark, toe nails are not in the colour range of a Lutino
the colour of the beak is too pronounced,a bright red tip only would be more in line, plus the over all body colour is too patchy and uneven,
the above is my definition of a Lutino Gouldian Finch and must not be mistaken for critisisum.
I am pleased that this new colour is in good hands and will be improofed on, what ever it may turn out to be,
with selective breeding and patience, there could well be an INO in the wings.

No I'm not offended and I welcome your feed back.

I too am like you in regards to it being a Lutino, I don't believe it is.
How ever I do believe there is something very different about this bird and only time will tell.

On another note in the USA of Europe they do breed red head Lutino's with a very red beak but am unsure about the colour of toes/toenails.

The eye colour seems to correspond with EY more than lutino & the double dilution is highly likely to be a combination of EY & AY. The pale breast would in this instance would come from the AY & the complete dilution of the back would come from EY. So hen BHSFYBAY (how's that for an Gouldian acronym?) seems to fit perfectly. This fits as a likely outcome with the parents' descriptions also.
