Hey guys,

There is a bird breeder in Epping that is always posting on Gumtree and is on Severn St.

I am wondering if anyone has ever been to the breeder to see the conditions or know their suppliers etc? I have checked the address out on Google Maps but there is no yard to keep birds so surmise that they must all be kept inside but for over 1000+ birds I don't know if there would be enough space to adequately house them, even temporarily. There are a lot of good deals though!!

I ask because I have a big heart and would most likely want to set all the birds free if I ever went to visit and they were being kept in Thai conditions... I must apologise in advance if the owner is a member, is reading this and is horribly offended due to his love for his birds.

I will post a link to the ad but not sure if moderators will allow:

He(John) is a dealer working out of his home. I have delivered birds to his place and he has also purchased off me at bird sales.
The one time I visited I was surprised not to see the 1000 birds available but he told me most of his breeding stock was held in aviaries
at his fathers place(from memory). It's up to the individual to accept this or not.
On that visit I will say the birds were in good condition and had their needs fully catered for.
Also for a breeder his prices tend to be reasonably high but that is his right I guess.

Thanks E Orix (and NSWCS), I guess I'll just have to check it out for myself but as long as the birds are all kept in good conditions then that's a good starting point.

Hi dnmitri
John is definitely a dealer not a breeder
His birds are normally priced on the high side
Can't comment on quality because I've never bought from him
Cheers

I've been in touch with him once to see if he was buying, but he offered me an offensively low price. I haven't checked out his facilities though.
Also, please don't set any birds free :) in all likelihood, they would die from dehydration, starvation or predation. If by some chance they join a wild flock, there is the risk of introducing diseases or genetic mutations to a wild population.

Haha Niki it was a figure of speech! In all reality I would alert the authorities in any such situation. :geek:
