Don't any other forum members or birdo's clean up their avairies and/or birds rooms? If so what do you use to clean with? What tricks do you have for getting it done? Don't you ever feel pride after cleaning and freshing up your birds and aviaries. Sit back and say to yourself damn, I did all that! Or does this only happen with new builds and or extensions to aviaries, or a clutch of eggs or nest of chicks. I feel fantastic each and everytime I clean in my bird barn. Always say to myself: damn I have some beautiful birds. It's never changed for me.
I vaguely remember Diane sharing a recipe using lemon juice as bird cage cleaner. Isn't cleaning part of aviculture and should be talked about and shared?
Wondering.............

I only do mine at beginning of summer...used to use bleach, but use Virkons S now.... perches get replaced with natural branches and nest boxes are soaked in it as well as seed and water dishes...cuttings etc replaced at same time...I'm sure others have different ideas...I say if it works for you don't change it.......as I only have holding aviary at moment (with hardwood flooring)I'm really not worried about breeding just yet (if they do well good luck to them).....extended aviary will have concrete floors for easy cleaning as well..

The Bitterness of Poor Quality Remains Long after the Sweetness of Cut Price is Forgotten
I'm sure you feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride when your done vettepilot_6. It's nice to know Virkon is used for more than sprouting seed.

Today I did a spare holding Aviary with a High Pressure Cleaner and put Hydrated Lime on the soil and raked it in.
Its now ready to receive any youngsters caught up in the next few weeks.
Cleaning a birdroom with all those cages, I don't know how you guys find the time or the inclination.

I change the perches fairly often, but really the way I do it is chuck the old and replace with completly new natural branches. So yes a feeling of satisfaction but only a major production on those occassions. Mostly I believe in leave it natural. But not dirty.

I clean mine out before the start of every breeding season. Hose everything down, scrub it with bleach, rinse off and then let the aviaries dry out for a couple of days before the birds are returned.
All the perches and brush are fresh at the beginning of each breeding season. You are right it is a wonderful feeling when you go into your bird room and/or aviary and everything is fresh and clean.
Cheers
