Hi all!

I am new to AFF and would like to ask the following 2 questions:

1) Are Crimson Finches really this evil (majority)? - A male I recently purchased (couldn't resist a chap purchase) attacks my Turquoise parrots full on! Ground battles + staunches and all!...Little bugger!

AND...

2) Any reputable sellers/breeders of Crimson around Sydney region?

Any advice/guidance would be much appreciated.

Cheers :)
Cheers,
Wes

I have 2 pairs of crimson's. 1 pair is in a mixed aviary no dramas ever. The other pair is in a separate aviary on their own as the male in that air is a vicious one. So I believe you have to take each bird on their own merit.

I recently bought a pr of crimsons Had them in a holding avairy 1m w x 3m l by themselves. The male got bored and beat the crap out of the hen. I then moved them into a still small breeding aviary 1.2 w x 4.5 l with a pr of lessors ( because the lessors had red on them )and one gouldian. Since then every ones happy the crimsons have fledged their third nest and the lessors one nest. Maybe there are triggers for aggression in some prs that can be taken away such as boredom, lack of competition . If you are trying to breed placid birds and aggressive triggers cant be dealt with, You then need to breed that trait out.

good luck with your male I hope you sort him out. He sounds like one hard case to solve.possibly a non breeder time will tell.

I find the most aggressive cocks are the best breeders but they need to be watched. If you clip or pull out three or four flight feathers on one wing it will slow him down. They seem to sulk for a while but get on with the job of breeding. If this is done once or twice they usually settle down and become not so aggressive and the best breeders. This sounds cruel but it saves hens, especially if they are WB's but in saying that i have only had one or two cocks display this aggression out of 8prs.
Can you tell me if the cock you have has a black crown,if it has it is a WA crimson and they are renowned for aggression, more so than grey crowned birds. Craig
