Shane, just a minor suggestion: because the Band ID in the bird list is formatted "Colour - Number" could you flip the boxes in the Identification Band of the data entry area so it goes Colour (or Color??) then Number, left to right. Sorry, I have this minor OCD about such things. I also distinguish between Left Leg and Right Leg, and also often have more than one band on an individual bird - but can so far get away with coding all the info into the two boxes provided (ignoring their titles). Maybe just have one longer box and let us put in our own way of describing the leg bands and do away with the "-" in the bird list which looks silly when nothing follows or precedes it.

This is coming. Most of the foundational work is done, I just need to come up with a decent interface to display the information and figure out how to work out more complex relationships (half sibling, second cousins etc.)Well done for creating such a good program. Simple to use though obviously not so simple to devise. To complicate things, could there be some way to represent family trees in the genealogy part? If not schematic, how about when you select a bird, there is generated a list of who the parents are, who are siblings or half-siblings and who are offspring.
That's right. (Keeping each new version compatible with your data was a huge challenge. I feel like people should know thatI think you need to download again, but all your data is retained so it's not a big deal.

I agree this information could be better presented. I'll get it done tonight some time. As for the types of band data; I think there's so many different formats and systems that people use that I will never be able to satisfy everyone. I think the current method would cover a large enough percentage of people, and others who use more complex systems (different legs, multiple bands etc) could either ignore the labels or make use of the 'Notes' section instead.do away with the "-" in the bird list which looks silly when nothing follows or precedes it.

Good on you Shane. You have done, and continue to do, a good job. I know you can't please everybody but you are doing very well - you have pleased me.
I also realise you are probably still looking at function rather than presentation at this stage.

Update! This one introduces genealogy (which is incredibly complicated) so any effort to test with complex family trees is HUGELY appreciated.
- There's now a list that displays each birds: parents, grandparent, siblings, half-siblings, offspring, nieces & nephews, cousins and second cousins.
- Made some bird list display changes; band information is better formatted (see above suggestion) and internal bird ID's are now shown.
- Misc bug fixes.
Once again, download is in the first post.

Well spotted. Fixed.I've noticed that the 'value' section reverts back to zero after updating or adding a bird.

Shane, when I crossed a father and daughter (who has a full brother) I got a huge list of multiple relationships between that bird and the four others I had related to it. Many were multiples (repeats) of the same description though they may have been derived through different pathways. I know it is very complex and you have done well to get that function up. But maybe you need to have it list only once each relationship type with any individual bird. That is, do not list any result that is the same as one already listed. I hope you understand me.
Also, when browsing to choose a bird as the parent, could you include the ID column in the table that appears? If a bird has no other ID than that assigned by your program (as some of my test birds are) it appears on the selection list (under Browse) the same as other birds of the same species and sex.
