Looking good Shane. Sorry to be a pest with details. I didn't notice before but now the genealogy of my test bird lists itself as its uncle - a bit weird. :problem:

Hi Shane,
I like the program well done! I currently use http://www.finchbreederdatabase.com/ which is nice but I don't like fact its all online and tomorrow it could be gone, Hence why your program is appealing to me.

Few things I noticed. (possible bugs)

* When I add a bird that is off spring of a current pair. If you add sire (browse and click) then Hen then click add bird it seems to lose the hens information. If you then re-add the hen and click update it seems to updated. This just means you need to go back an manually add birds mother each time.

Suggestions :

Is it possible to have 2 leg ring fields (left & right) as sometimes its good to know which leg a ring is on or sometimes birds have both legs rung with different rings.
In the print section is it possible to show the bird ID in the list?
One of the things I like about the online database is that it allows you to add and keep track of the genetic mutations (I solely breed gouldians so things like White chest / split blue etc) I know you can add this via notes section but maybe a possible feature in time.

Questions :

Is it possible to backup datebase to dropbox or another area? even if that just means making a copy of a certain file? which file would that be etc or a import / export feature.

Keep up good work program looks great ;)

Hi Shane,

Just followed the link to purchase, registered, but there's no further steps towards obtaining your program?

Anyway, I'm interested to see a bit more of it and how much you're asking.

Cheers

Hi mickw,

You want the green button on the right sidebar. Link can be found in my signature.

I pushed out an update for this yesterday, but due to an unfortunate bug AFF members with a free copy were unable to download it. I've since sent out a new 'Purchase Confirmation' email, containing a link that should continue to work for the next year.

I also wanted to show off one of the new features in the 1.1 update - a bulk bird adding tool! Lets you quickly add a group of identical birds into the system, which makes it easy to add new clutches of young.

Sorry Shane I have been following the old post.
I have added a few suggestions on there not sure if you have seen or they are relevant.
I can bring across here if you like.
Regards
Brian

I thought I would bring them across

Shane if you are worried or wish to put in an alert when a person considers a possible match that should be avoided, could you not put in a user defined variable where the user can select a level they are happy with.
I assume by reading the replies there are different desires and it would perhaps differ for different users so a user variable would perhaps solve the problem.
One breeder might be happy with 5 generations where another would require 20.
We used to use this option a lot so a customer could dictate how a program worked. Also good for lots of variable options. We even used this for the selection of language as our software was used in many countries.
When we set up a company it had its default set and then each user either took a set company default or had a administrator defined set, and then each high level user had a different configurable set to enable access to different levels. This covered different job roles etc.
This can also enable you to configure for different species etc. Parrots would want different alarms /desires to finches to pigeons etc.
Looking forward to the finished product.

Brian

Hi Shane just a suggestion for you to consider.
I have been doing some more testing /entering data as I get time.
Not sure how people collect / record data but I get a feel that there is a need ( or it would be nice) for an event option which would be bird based but be stored and then displayed when a bird is selected.
This is similar to history to record perhaps the changes in cages, the date a pair is formed or a clutch is hatch / emerged from nest etc.
This data could be keyed with the bird ID number and then have a screen to record. After a bird is selected then an event could be defined such as species etc is now and then a date and a note field. With breeding etc a second bird could be selected but be left blank if it is a single bird event.
If the second bird is selected then the info would be saved for both birds.
I am sure it would be beneficial to be able to display history for separate birds as well as to be able to trace trends such as dates of breeding / entering nests / fledging etc.
Regards
Brian
