anyone lining up for the trek to Gunnedah this year?
maybe bringing birds that I should raid the kids moneybox for?
I will be taking some bread and butter finches....hopefully to pay the seed bill!
stop in and say hello.
I spoke to some birdies who stayed at the motel I was at. They said that there were more birds benched than usual, less buyers and even less actually buying.
Got there just on 10 & walked straight in, no line up like usual, fair number of birds, but crowd was definitely down on previous years. Fair number of bread & butter finches, nearly every second seller had Gouldians, plenty of OB's, Ruddies, cutthroats, fair number of Cubans, Plumheads for $45 pr, a few Pictorellas, Diamonds, some Crimsons, & one seller had 3 pr of young Golden Song Sparrows (wont mention any names). Stand out for me was 2pr of Blue Pacific Parolettes, first time I have seen them in the flesh, very small bird ( a Java Sparrow would tower over them), didn't realise they were in the country, but at $7k a pr a little out of my range.
Had to do a bit of searching for parolettes as I did not know them under this name.
In Europe they go under the name Forpus. On my recent visit to Europe I saw a good number of them. Popular with people who attend and take part in bird shows.
Easy breeding. Aggressive towards others of the same species.
Breeding well in cages.
