G'day all,
Thought I would post a pic or two of my new addition. It has been out of the nest a week now so hopefully it will survive.
Wont say what it is just yet only that it has been in the forum a bit this week.
Thanks for EOrix and a well known author of finch books in Australia, I have been given an opportunity to have a crack with them.
Mum and Dad are in their 2nd year and they fill the yard with a beautiful dawn choris - aviary is around 50m from the house and I can hear them in the morning when I have my coffee and the sky is lighting up.

Any guesses?

Certainly not a Gouldian, Skylark nor Twinspot. For the others you guessed right.
The new photo shows the hatchling a few days old (25 April) then fledged and out and about (in the first photo) on the weekend - so about 3 weeks in total. Parents are by no means tight sitters, by the time you get to the aviary they are off the nest making you think that the eggs have been abandoned.
They are monumental with their growth rate - raised on maggots, mealies and roaches, seed, softfood/sprouted seedmix.
While they were in a planted aviary they built their nest on the bottom layer of a brush column around 1200mm off the floor (4 ft in the old scale). I have two other species in the aviary that have red on them but don't know that they are that interested yet mainly because of size, Java Sparrows and Bleeding heart pigeons - now that I have said that I may live to regret it in the next few days.
If you get the opportunity to give them a go, they are very rewarding, but they are extremely flighty, nervous and rarely come out into visibility until you sit quietly for 10 mins or so - nice way to relax.
Thanks to the guys that have kept these guys going and making them available to numpties like me.
