Good news, another breeder adding to the breeding stock.
They aren't easy but well worth the challenge.
What is it, a cock bird!!!! at least I have a 50/50 guess.

Are these guys strictly large planted aviaries or can they be effectively be managed by themselves in in small specialist type aviaries? How small...be blunt I am certainly not interested in shoehorning these guys into something inappropriate ...understand individual experience and opinion.

In the early days the person that got them going was using very small aviaries.
A long while ago but from memory they would not have been any more than
1m x 2m x1.8m quite small.
One pair per aviary.
Another Forum member is breeding them in possibly 3mx3mx2m along with other species.
He may comment later.
I try to bond these birds so I pair them up as soon as I can sex them.
They seem to settle well and I have some in small holding aviaries similar to the first ones mentioned
and provided I kept up the live food and balanced diet they would be fine.
My pairs are run in a mixed collection without any problem, I once blamed a pair for destroying some
Red Faced Parrot Finches but later on I discovered they were not responsible so I shouldn't have jumped to an early
conclusion. There are rare accounts of them causing problems but it is possibly odd birds.
They can be hard on the hens when first released that is why I bond them otherwise release the hen a day or so
before releasing the cock bird, by then she will know the aviary and if need be take cover.
The person who purchased the odd cock bird at the Melb. bird sale was replacing one that escaped and he housed
them in quite a small cage apparently
