Pied Orange Breast or deficiency?

Saw this just before, is that orange breast pied and this person had no idea what they had? or is it more likely a deficiency of some kind?

I would say deficiency because the flight feather is only partially white,if it was pied those flight feathers would be fully white. I have seen this in many finches but eventually it will moult out to normal. Craig

I was talking to a friend at yesterday's sale. He has quite a few like this and he assures me they have now moulted and have retained the white feathers - not just flight feathers. His OBs are largely from mine and I've never had a single white feather. He has them in mixed aviaries and all other species seem fine.

Any theories on the nutritional or other cause of this condition?

If the price is right and you want new blood it is always worth a try. Worst case you get an unrelated hen normal.

Very common in OBs, Strawbs, Cordons, & Ruddy fledglings where diet &/or environmental conditions are less than ideal during rearing. I have only experienced it when livefood supply has been reduced or cut off during nest-bound rearing.

Not so Tiaris,the latest true pied orange breasted have white pied colour. All these yellow pieds seem to moult out to normal eventually re Chainsaws Topic.

Also,usually the flight and tail feathers of a yellow pied are white as in pied RFPF. Craig

White pied. Same as pied ruddies,pied RFPF
and most other pied finches, pied flight and tail feathers only,i'm not talking body pied though i'm sure AMCA's ob's have white pied bodies as well. Craig
