Hi all
I have been using fossil shell flour for three months now I changed to this to replace a strict worming
program. As I was having doubts what the chemicals were doing to my birds.
Iam using the f s f in my plain finch mix 24/7,just wondering about other peoples opinions and
long term results on using this product.
I have also noticed that it is being used for other purposes.

I use it as a mineral supplement & ant deterrent, but am unconvinced (yet) of its ability to effectively control intestinal worms. I know of a couple of people trialling it for this purpose & am eagerly awaiting the outcomes. I hope it does work but until I have seen or heard first hand of it conclusively working, so for now I remain sceptical but also hopeful.
How do you supply it yo your birds?Tiaris wrote:I use it as a mineral supplement & ant deterrent, but am unconvinced (yet) of its ability to effectively control intestinal worms. Can you just put in on a plate like mineral grit?

After approximately 12 months, June 2014/15, using this type of product a very well known finch breeder, living in central NSW, was forced to use medications again as his birds were found to be in poor condition. After some of these finches died a necropsy was conducted and all these birds were found to be full of worms.
He started using medications again, June 2015, to prevent worm infestations of his birds. His said that his birds are looking better physically since re-commencing the worming program. The worming medication in their water bowls for 3 days, as per dose rate, then same repeated 9 days later. This was recently confirmed when 40?? odd live healthy birds were Vet checked, September 2015, and all these birds found to be worm free.
Another bonus in having healthy birds are their willingness to breed and reproduce they did with numbers exceeding 800?? plus birds for this year.
Back to the use of D/E flour we both agree that this organic product kills ants around the aviary and codling? moth in the seed bins. Not sure if the efficacy of D/E flour against internal parasites is what others have stated about this product.
