paul it would be far safer to use aviclens and not apple cider vinager to soak seed. all the acv does is change the acidity of the water to help clens the birds system from nasties. aviclens is made to control germs and pathogens , in the old days they used diluted bleach which would be far safer than acv, dont be fooled by the lack of a foul smell...also a good acv can be used as a probiotic (the thicker type stuff in the health food isle)similar as to us humans using yogurt/ accult to boost the good bacteria in the digestive system........pete

I have tried a wide spectrum of things while sprouting:

Apple Cider Vinegar
Grapefruit Seed Extract
Sparkle (Morning Bird Product = Chlorhexidine Glutinate 0.12%)
And lastly (and consistently now) Virkon S

With the ACV, GSE and Sparkle my sprout jar would get a nasty brown tint to the inside of the glass within a week or two of use, even after rinsing after each time. It would wipe off and my guess is that it was a type of brown algae. Whatever it was I couldn't imagine it was "good."

A friend of mine sent me some Virkon to try, and it is the ONLY product I have found that keeps the jar completely crystal clear - I maybe wash it in the dishwasher once a month now, of course rinsing it between uses still, and it doesn't matter how long I let it go, NOTHING grows in there anymore.
It is fantastic.. it's no wonder they use it exclusively at STGF as a sprouting aid.
