Hi,

I've been looking at the forum for a few years now & just joined to view some of the Gouldian photo's.

Kept odd Aussie Finches for a few years now in the UK including Gouldians,BlackThroats,Double Bar,CBM,RH Parrot Finch I breed the odd Gouldian & Black Throat in cages (cabinets).
Currently concentrating on Red Headed normal type Gouldians & am looking forward to picking up a few tips.

Also enjoyed some of the Australian Finch Society video's on YouTube recently.

Best wishes to all forum members.

Mark

Cage breeding, I keep a bird room indoors with large cages (it can get quite cold here in the winter). But I am considering building an aviary in the future so I can put some outside in the summer.

I knew most Brits bred in indoor set ups, but was aware of a small contingent of outdoor summer set ups, hence the curiosity. Sister is in Alton, (wisked away be a Brit some years back) anywhere near you?

If you the mean 'Alton' in Hampshire (Southern England) its about 250 miles from me I'm up in Yorkshire in (Northern England). The further south you go the better your chances with on outdoor aviary setup temperature wise. I know some have heated compartments in their outdoor setups but I'm not sure how reliable they are & there are security issues here with bird thefts especially during the winter with longer dark nights providing cover.

Hi Mark, as an old Englishman I can tell you that it is so much easier to keep them alive here in big A. They also breed like rabbits here,,,aren't we lucky? Best of luck to you though. You can succeed in UK if you are willing to put enough effort into it.

Kindest regards

Maurice.
