I use Roban....Spoke to Supplier and they say it is safe to use around dogs as they would need to eat a bucket full before poisoning occurs....

For perimeter of aviaries I use TomKat. These have a hole through them so I get a piece of poly pipe 30cm long drill a 15 mm hole through the top of the pipe in the middle and tie the bait in place keeps them dry and other pets cant get at them.Holtz

I wouldn't be too complacent . .

If it works against rats it works against dogs

I found my foxy eating Ratsak . . He had negotiated 2 plastic bags and actually opened the cardboard container and eaten most of the contents

Into the vet, and he was given a needle and placed in a washing cubicle . . 20 seconds later Ratsak all over the cubicle floor and one relieved owner

Vet opinion was that it would have killed him after abot 10 days if I hadn't spotted him

Knowing Labs . . they would eat a bucket full

I don't keep buckets around of poison. ..just odd baits thrown under floors back of cupboards etc....so unless she can climb 8ft to top of cupboard where bucket of poison is or climb under flooring or inside cupboards. .think she is pretty safe...

And as a Terrier owner (Jack Russell) they are more prone to, anywhere you can hide it I can find it.

Cat Pee Cat Pee if you have a cats like me (have 2 males fixed) let them pee around your aviary's.i had real trouble when i first shifted to where we are now, mice everywhere. The came from a wooded area behind us. The theory is that the mice smell the cat pee and sense a predator is near so they keep clear. I have not seen a mouse for over two years now.
I Keep my seed in srew top with a inner lid plastic drums nice and air tight.

Hi everyone,
Advice needed please.
Hubby built a lovely planted aviary about 35 sq metres with Non toxic plants and veggies for the finches to use or eat.
We used heavy duty 'mouse proof wire' to be sure and our finches have only been in their new home for two weeks and we have already seen a mouse. What can you use inside an aviary that won't harm the finches? We were told those electronic rodent repellents don't work. Can mice harm the birds or babies?

Unfortunately there is no poison I know of that will not kill birds as easily as mice. Traps are the go. But be careful as I have had a finch go head first down one of those wire contraptions that look like little crayfish pots, so need to put traps inside a small wire cage with the bars so the mice can get in and the finches cant. To mouse proof an avairy you need to not only use rodent wire, but make sure you have your foundations down 600/700mm so the mice can not dig under it, and check the gaps round your doors are not bigger than the gaps in your wire. These are the common mistakes beginners and even more experienced birdos make. Am still slowly improving my avairys and eliminating mistakes after many years of being a birdo. Good luck with your trapping.
