European goldfinch disease problems

This problem encountered?
My problem is I bought the wild European Goldfinch and Hooded Siskin to breed,
but they has been thin, maintain a few weeks after the death, eat food and drinking water normal, no diarrhea, will also sing a bath, but it is increasingly thin, and finally death, I would like to ask you guys, this is what causes it? how can I prevention and treatment? This problem bothered me for a long time, can help me ? Thank you guys.

At a guess, gizzard worms. Very hard to get rid of so search for a medication in your country or check your local bird dealers for a particular wormer for gizzard worms. Craig

Hi Craig52, how did you come to the conclusion that it may be Gizzard worm without asking if whole seed was in the birds droppings? My father trapped goldfinches for years & the losses were high if the birds were not handled correctly with regard to feed & stress. Trapped goldfinches should not be given a dry seed diet only & over crowding is a big no no. I would have thought it may be Megabacteria seeing as it spread to the siskin. But to know what it was, or was not ,the droppings would have to checked under a microscope & an autopsy done on both birds. People make jokes when I say that I opened up a dead bird to see what may have killed it.I have lost birds,they acted normal but slowly deteriated & lost weight over time & died, when an autopsy was done I found no worms,the organs looked fine, but I found a blood clot under the scull so the bird died through cerebral hemorrhage, so why waist time & money treating a flock of birds for nothing. You need to check the dead bird first . Regards Nye

With Craig's experience it would be an 'educated' guess . . and like all guesses, it could be wrong



You could have added your 'educated guesses' ( all quite valid I might add ) . . and advice in a less aggressive manner

And, like Craigs guess, yours could be wrong

Ok you guys, everyone is allowed an opinion. My diagnoses is my opinion and it wasn't a be all end all opinion. This member is from overseas and i wouldn't have the foggiest idea of medications or for that matter whether they even do postmortems over there. Tis the silly season thanks, Craig
