I will be in Australia from the 9th of February for just under 4 weeks to visit family in Millmerran. Can someone please tell me what birds I will be seeing in their natural habitat during my stay.
The places that I will visit includes Stradbroke Island, Rainbow Beach (Rainbow Waters Holiday Park), Fraser Island, 'Cathedrals on Fraser Island' Inskip point, Queen Mary Falls and Bald Rock.
I am sooooo looking forward to it!!
In this area, where can I get hold of a Finch Forum Cap?

Australia is a birding Mecca.
Let your finders do the walking and use the search engine on your computer. you will net be disappointed.
And of course you will see lots of Dongo's on Fraser island, the largest sand island in the world.
enjoy,
case

Hi Andre
I hope you enjoy your time. I don't know the area where you are but these links have some lists of species that are found there. Toowoomba is nearby and you will find it different to the rest of Queensland as it is on a high plateau with some very different climate. It will be interesting. Wondul Range National Park is next to you (I have never heard of this, nor been there). You will probably find it more difficult to see a lot of birds in Australia as opposed to South Africa as there is not the mass.
The main things you'll love are the large parrot species we have that you don't find many of in southern Africa. The small finches are lovely but harder to find. (I must say however that I am always jealous of your lilac-breasted roller. They are exceptional).
One the islands, one of my favourites is the bush stone curlew that become very tame as they are used to people feeding them. You should be able to get some close up photos of this odd looking bird. They should be breeding or still feeding their young then.
Fraser Island is fun. The rainbow bee-eater is nice but I think South Africa has some that are far more beautiful. A personal favourite but maybe difficult to see is the black breasted button quail. Like emus and ostriches the male hatches and looks after the young without the female. You may see them in low scrubby grass if it's quiet. You may also see some channel-billed cuckoos coming back from breeding down south. They are pretty cool and their life cycle fascinating.
Enjoy
