I wish to use one in my new aviary as I always have difficulty netting my finches.

What is best please:-
- A readily available metal cage similar to a Kmart budgie cage
- A finch carry box with the front being mesh into which I would incorporate a gravity closing door.

Are the finches more likely to enter a feed station that is more open looking (all mesh) or is a box where all but the front is mesh going to do the job?

Thanks,
Dave

Yes, more likely to come into a more open one.

All sounds fine, until you use it and the birds you want get away, wont come back. Just use a soft net, couple at at time. Better than having them all flapping about in the catch trap and really stressed. Just my thoughts .

If the catch trap is the feed station & they get used to feeding in there without being caught/stressed 99% of the time they use it, it should be fine.
