Hi all, just wanted to point out how much satisfaction I (we) get out of pets. I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 200 odd finches; sometimes it seems all I do is clean! I have had a rough trot with rats over the last month or two, lost over 30 of last years young, was feeling a bit put-off, but over the last week I have had RFPF and silver-headed nuns fledge for the first time, and over the last few weeks have had heaps of young stars and plumheads, with Cubans, ruddies, gouldians, and cordon young in nests at the moment, with others nesting too. The new young always give me a lift and make me realise what a great hobby finch-keeping is, and how satisfying pets can be
Hope you are all enjoying it too!

Always more good stuff, even if it is just the pleasure of watching and listening to the birds. Though at times the bad stuff (rodents) can get one a bit peeved. Chill and enjoy the successess.

At this time of my life I spend a lot of time working but fortunate enough to be able to do a few days a week from home. The first thing I do when home is open all doors and window so I can hear my finches, it is very relaxing, better then any stress pills on the market.

It is such a stress reliever. I wonder how many heart attacks, bouts of depression or even suicides have been averted by aviculture?

Well i know one person
and he is doing quite well now, nearly chucked it in through depression. If he had done what he had thought he would do he would probably be pushing up roses by now but his birds and bird mates now keep him on the straight and narrow. So yes pets/birds can do wonders to a persons health. Cheers Craig

Good to hear I'm not the only one who benefits
And my cats are only new, I got them after the rats, so hopefully they might help that situation too!

3 dogs, 60 breeding finches which can blow out to 150 finches, and an 8ft tropical marine fish tank. They are a lot of work but are very rewarding. I keep telling myself Ill have more time if I ever retire.
