hi everyone, is bleach safe to use to clean glass containers used for water???

i got some used upside down drip glass drinkers from a friend and they were a little dirty, he said to buy some white king!

does anyone use bleach to clean this way??? does it get diluted down? then do you need to rinse it really well before filling water and putting back in the aviary???

i wana make sure its safe for my gouldians.

I don't know if it is good to use but I can confirm that I have in the past used a diluted bleach and water mix in a bucket and soaked my birds water dispenser in it for a week. This removed any mould etc very well but don't forget to clean it well after bleaching. What I do is I rotate my drink containers so I have one in use and a spare and when the one in use starts showing signs of any green mould (just give it a good wipe over between fills but when it really buildis up quickly is how I judge the time is right) I soak one as noted and pull the other out of the cupboard. I think that if you rotate you will have the one you bleached and cleaned sitting around for a little while before use and thereby any residual bleach should be well gone by the time it goes into use.

To date there has not been any issue with the birds. I actually use the bleach in my ornamental water features (no fish etc) each month to control algel growth with great success.

The bleach water mix does not need to be strong if you let it soak

yep dilute it and then rinse rinse rinse then rinse again dry in the sun and good as new. Ive also used bleach to clean fish tanks when I was into breeding fish and I never had a problem.

Yes I do the same thing, bleach the water bottles and the cages, feed bowls, perches.....just about everything. Everything goes into soak, then gets washed and rinsed and dried in the sun.

I even wipe the aviaries down with it, just use a little bit of bleach for that. Wring the cloth out and wipe over.

I've used very diluted bleach for cleaning.
I've also used a sterilising solution, Milton
used for babies bottles and teats. Local supermarket
should have some.
Anything I say. What a wonderful philosophy you have.

i use diluted white king and most of the time i use domestos... make sure u dont over do it. i soak seed dishes and water dishes in it but i have enough of a supply that its a couple of months before that dish returns to an aviary so its pretty dry. i also use it to clean my maggot trays and icecream cotainers with no problems, they used bleach diluted before in water dishes to stop them fouling up before we got avi clens .......pete

Around a cap full per litre should be OK. Broad estimate only and best to experiment.
