Ok I know we have all done this but I find it a frustrating stage of keeping birds. How does everybody approach catching of birds for tagging, inspection, hospilization etc. I'm sure there will be a lot of us interested to know different techniques that will make this as easy as possible without distressing the birds :?: :?:

I know of 3 I have used.

Food trap. (cage with a trap door).
A Net. Which with a large planted Avirey is stressful and time consuming, but you get good at it after a while. I use two nets, one in each hand.
Night time. Last effot. If the other two fail I pick a nice warm nice. This will strees your birds, but I have never lost one yet. Sometimes if you need to catch quite a few this is the quickest.

Thats mine anyway.

I'm un-co-ordinated enough with one net, so would hate to imagine me with two. :o
Sometimes find I am able to chase the desired bird/s into the safety cage and with less birds and obstructions the whole process is less stressful for them and me.

A couple of port snorts and a big net ....even if you fail to catch a bird its a good laugh any way. :D

The port and two nets sounds like it will keep the family amused even more then they currently are when I try with one. definately worth a go
