Is a pair of Goldfinch trouble free in a mixed aviary?

Hi Davlee,I had several pairs in my mixed collection without a problem with the other finches.
Only trouble that I had was they were first to get stuck into the mealworms,a bit of a problem when you have young
Weavers in the nest. For this reason I moved them on.

I have a breeding pair together with Green singers, Gouldians, Cordons, Stars, Red face Parrots, Orange breasted and Cubans. No fights however they scream at any bird that fly too close to them.

Ditto what everyone else said.

I'd also add to avoid wild-caught goldfinches like the plague.

Aviary bred birds are best but you will struggle to find them.

Wild birds will breed easy enough and if you foster the eggs under canaries the young will lose a little of that nervousness. This is my plan for the green and the goldies this season.
Breeding Project 2020-2025.
agate mosaic canaries, agate yellow mosaic canaries, red zebs, self bengos and goldfinch mules.

My father-in-law fostered some feral Goldfinch eggs under his canaries & the young (even fostered from eggs) were mad as cut snakes when able to fly. It was if they were wild-caught themselves.

A pr in a mixed collection is fine just remember to feed them Goldfinch/siskin diet "NOT" finch mix. Just saw a cage of Goldfinches in a dealers shop with a big bowl of millet mix. Just appalling. They wonder why most die? Its called starvation! Good luck with them !
