Does anyone here band emblema finches?, when do you band them at what age? Do the parents mind if you take the chicks from the nest to band them?
What size band do you use 2mm.? If you don't band them how can you tell the parents from the babies once they get full colour? I want to be able to keep my original birds so need some way of identifying the offspring from the parents.

What about ringing the parents & leaving the young until caught out?

Thankyou I appreciate your advice. i would love to band the parents but at the moment have no idea how I am going to catch them. they are so much quicker and smaller than the canaries. They are also a lot smarter. I catch most of my canaries and gouldians by putting broccoli in a cage and closing the door on them. I only net catch if absolutely necessary. The emblemas don't go into the broccoli cage. What is their favourite food that they just can't resist, If i can lure them in the cage with that it will be easy

If they are nesting white feathers or cotton wool(not synthetic type) or try charcoal, that could really interest them.
